Friends Forever

What a gift this morning has been, no children and home alone!! No I haven't been lying on the couch and I did think of running the bath but for the last three and a half hours I have been tidying up, moving ornaments around and transforming rooms to look new again. OK, I am trying to make my life seem more interesting than it really is, I was cleaning up the dumping ground that has become our bedroom.
I love sifting through the things you find in drawers and taking the time to appreciate the stories behind each little piece. I stumbled across a frame a very dear old friend made for me at a scrapbooking party. It is titled "Friends Forever", and I was secretly chuffed at the time, that she chose to make a story board about our life together. You see we started Kindy together and remained the best of friends ever since. We have such a long and rich history together and our families have stood the test of time, sharing eighteenths, graduations, engagements, weddings and babies.
We both attended the same Uni and shared much of the social life that Uni has to offer. On the ceremonial graduation day, after four years of hard work both studying teaching it seemed fittingly that we don our gown and hats together. Receiving our our degrees at the same ceremony seemed appropriate and made the occasion all the more special. I have also been lucky enough to be her Matron of Honour and she the Fairy Godmother of our eldest daughter.
One disc on the frame is of our first ever traditional Easter hat parade, I for some reason refused to go out of uniform for fear of getting into trouble. My mother gave into my hysteria and permitted my urges to be a non-rule breaker. Unfortunately this desire to be a goodie two shoes did not continue into later life.
Friend's for life we shall be, as our friendships has withstood the test of time over 30 long years. Whilst I have never lived anywhere other than my original town, Row has had many moves over the years due to her father's occupation. More recently her moves have been due to her own or hubbies teaching career. No matter how far her travels have taken her or for whatever period we have always found each other again. For true friendships stay strong no matter the length between phone calls or cups of tea. All that matters is that when you do finally get together face to face that you enjoy your time and fit in about 3 months of catching up over a meal.
Friends are like sisters and the right ones enrich our lives forever. I am blessed with a possie of girlfriends who I trust entirely and have spent a lot of great times with. Just this week, I got to spend Wednesday night with four of them watching the finale of our favourite TV show and for the next day I felt so uplifted to have experienced our little encounter. I love my friends and the support and friendship they give to my life, both in the good times and the bad. You ladies all know who you are. xox
